Pellicle Help

Searching

Pellicle uses the macOS Vision framework to classify every photo during indexing. This means you can search your library by what's in the photo, not just its filename or metadata.

What's Detected

Vision analysis runs automatically during indexing and identifies:

  • Scenes — landscape, beach, sunset, city, forest, etc.
  • Objects — car, building, food, flower, etc.
  • Animals — dog, cat, bird, horse, and many more specific breeds and species.
  • Faces — detected (but not identified) for filtering.
  • Text (OCR) — any readable text in the image, such as signs, documents, or labels.

All of this is stored in the database and indexed for fast full-text search.

Using Search

Type in the search field at the top of the window (or press /) to search across your current folder. Search queries match against:

  • Vision classifications (scenes, objects, animals)
  • OCR text detected in images
  • EXIF/IPTC metadata (camera model, lens, keywords, etc.)
  • Filenames

Results appear instantly, even across very large libraries. Search is scoped to the currently selected folder and its subdirectories.

Quick Filters

Use ⌘⇧P to filter to picked photos, ⌘⇧X for rejected, and ⌘⇧U for unflagged. Press ⌘⇧D to clear the active filter.
