Pellicle Help

Culling & Flagging

Pellicle supports a pick/reject workflow for culling your photos. Flags are written to sidecar files so they carry across to your editing tools.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • P — Pick (flag as a keeper)
  • X — Reject
  • U — Unflag (clear pick/reject)

These work in both the grid view and the detail view. In the grid, they apply to all selected photos.

Sidecar Files

When you flag a photo, Pellicle writes the flag to a sidecar file alongside the original image. The sidecar format is configurable in Settings:

  • XMP — Standard sidecar format, compatible with Lightroom, Capture One, and most other tools. Uses the xmpDM:pick and xmpDM:good fields.
  • DOP — DxO PhotoLab sidecar format. Pellicle writes the minimum required fields so DxO fills in the rest.
  • Both — Writes both XMP and DOP sidecars simultaneously.

For JPEG files, flags are also written directly into the file's EXIF metadata.

Deleting Photos

Press (Backspace) in the grid to move selected photos to the bin. In the bin view, pressing permanently deletes them from disk.

Rotation

Press [ to rotate counterclockwise and ] to rotate clockwise. Rotation is written to the sidecar file and applied non-destructively — the original image data is never modified.
